ABOUT BENJAMIN

American-Canadian violinist Benjamin Bowman has served as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 2017 and is also a member of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He previously held the position of Concertmaster with the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra.

Recognized for his expressive artistry and collaborative spirit, Bowman is deeply engaged in chamber music and ensemble performance. At the Met, he brings a particular passion for operatic repertoire, cherishing both the sweeping resonance of the full orchestra and the intimate power of the violin’s solo voice—often in dialogue with the world’s leading singers. He has performed at major festivals and concert halls across Europe and North America.

A dedicated educator, Bowman teaches at the Manhattan School of Music and has given masterclasses internationally. His teaching emphasizes the same expressive freedom and collaborative approach that characterize his performing career.

His recordings include a 2017 Grammy nomination with the ARC Ensemble (The Chamber Works of Jerzy Fitelberg) and a 2013 Juno Award with the Amici Chamber Ensemble (Levant). His wide-ranging discography—on labels including Chandos, Sony Masterworks/RCA Red Seal, ATMA Classique, and Innova—includes projects in new music, improvisation, and cross-genre collaborations with celebrated singer-songwriters.
